Head of Human Resources

  • We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Head of Human Resources (HR) for a full-time position in the company’s San Diego headquarters.
  • The Head of HR is a critical leadership position and, as such, will report to the CEO.
  • The Head of HR will be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of all aspects of HR. This includes policies administration, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation, benefits, payroll administration, and staffing.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from sourcing and recruiting to offboarding;
  • Establishes and models a tone exhibiting the importance of diversity, inclusion and belonging in all applicable aspects of engagement with the business;
  • Collaborates with the leadership team and all managers to understand and execute the organization’s goals;
  • Identifies staffing and recruiting needs, partners with talent acquisition assets and leads the business effort to source the best talent; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management;
  • Identifies problem trends and develops/executes improvement processes;
  • Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, provincial, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices;
  • Reviews, recommends, socializes and implements changes to policy and practice to maintain compliance;
  • Analyzes and maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to the leadership team;
  • Investigates and, with business leadership, adjudicates disputes or issues, such as working conditions, disciplinary actions and employee and applicant appeals;
  • Expected to periodically lead or contribute to larger-scale enterprise efforts or projects;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with 10+ years of HR experience with some or all of that experience in the biotech/pharma sector;
  • Previous senior leadership position in the HR department of a publicly-traded company;
  • Strong knowledge of US employment law, possess leadership and coaching/counseling abilities, sensitive with confidential matters and information;
  • Adaptive and a quick learner, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently;
  • Highly motivated, punctual and reliable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic;
  • Execution focused, team-oriented with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
